Susa Valley: about the eviction of the Casa Cantoniera

For a year now, the pandemic has disrupted the lives of billions of people, and in the dystopian world where the huge increase in surveillance and control systems is legitimised by the doctrine of war on the virus, where everything is illegal except going to work, the evictions do not stop.
Two and a half years after it opened, the Casa Cantoniera Occupata, the self-managed shelter in Oulx, was evicted.
Inside the House was full of people: the pandemic has never stopped those on the move without the privilege of having a place to stay.

Occupied in December 2018, it was a place created to give solidarity to people who wanted to cross the French-Italian border at the Montgenèvre Pass. A place of struggle and self-organisation, against all borders and military and political devices that seek to control and select. [Read More]

Berlin: Køpi taking the threat seriously

Statement – 22.03.2021
Our current situation:

At February 4th we received a formal letter filed in court from Startezia GmbH to vacate the Køpi Wagenplatz (aka Køpiplatz) by February 28th 2021. After more than 20 years, Startezia GmbH thinks they can force us to leave Køpiplatz but of course we have not left, and we are unwilling to give up our homes. Until now the first court date has not been set, but it is definitely coming sooner rather than later. We have been under threat of sale or eviction before, but this time, as gentrification and new construction surround us, we believe the risk to be more serious than ever before. [Read More]

Montpellier: The Bat du Peuple does not mind being helped

The squat in the Beaux-Arts district is consolidating. It is useful to bring materials to it. Occupied since the beginning of the school year at 1 rue Substantion, near the Corum, a former garage has become the Bat du Peuple, which is run by people from the former Casa del Sol. Its philosophy remains close to that of the former Casa del Sol, with a clear anchorage in the social movement, for example the movement against the laws of separatism or global security. The references of the Bat du Peuple are rooted in the Yellow Vests movement, and the actions of sharing and food solidarity are at the heart of its practices, with waste recycling, free groceries, people’s kitchen. Berlin: Defend Meuterei!

The best place is still at the bar – The best place is still on the street

On March the 25th the kneipecollective Meuterei is facing eviction, after almost 2 years without a contract.

Traversing a period where Berlin is facing a big transformation and the autonomous infrastructures a great attack, places as Meuterei, are necessary.

They are necessary for the people of the neighborhood who cannot afford the price list of the new posh bars, for the people of the scene who need a meeting point to socialize and politicize, for young people who seek for moments outside parent’s and teacher’s controls, for homeless people who need a place to rest without cops and security controls, for people who do not get pressured or kicked out if they dont buy. Barcelona: Sara released with charges. Freedom for 27F prisoners. Enough of police set-ups

Yesterday, monday March 22, at the last minute, we received the news of the release (with charges) of Sara, one of the eight imprisoned for the demonstration on 27 February in Barcelona. The appeal lodged by the defence would prove, by means of expert evidence, that it could not have been her who sprayed flammable liquid, as the police statement claimed.

Once again, this story, with its categorical assertions, reproduced by so many media outlets, is beginning to fade. Sara was arrested, charged and imprisoned as the perpetrator of the van fire without the right to the presumption of innocence. Just like the rest of the people arrested and today imprisoned.

Sara’s photo, her name and details appeared in the media, first in La Vanguardia, echoed by the Italian press. A few days before she was due to serve a month in prison, she was released with charges after her lawyer and an expert witness for the defence proved that it was impossible that she was the person accused by the police, the public prosecutor and the court. Susa Valley: self-managed shelter ChezJesOulx evicted

Brutal wakeup this morning at the former cantonal house in Oulx, which became, after the occupation in December 2018, a self-managed shelter for people on the move.
At dawn riot police, digos, fire brigade and Red Cross surrounded the shelter.
The barricades held for an hour and a half. Then, thanks to the intervention of the fire brigade, the police managed to enter the house, where about forty men, women and children were sleeping.
The sympathisers were surrounded and isolated outside the house, and the travelling people were taken to the Red Cross tent for a health check. Then the migrants were moved to the Salesian structure in Oulx and to a nuns’ institute in Susa. Those without documents were taken to the Bardonecchia police station. The sympathisers who came in the meantime were kept away.
On the same day, the trial for the occupation of the first self-managed shelter, the occupied basemenmt under the church in Claviere, began. [Read More]

London: Mayor’s Office threatens illegal eviction against squatters protesting police violence

The Mayor’s Office of Policing and Crime has threatened an illegal eviction against squatters currently occupying the former Cavendish Road police station in Clapham Common. The squatters are occupying in protest against police violence and the new police crackdown bill. The bill has been delayed from progressing to committee stage in the face of widespread national outrage and protests across the country.

This morning the Advisory Service for Squatters tweeted that the Mayor’s Office was threatening to breach Section 6 of the Criminal Law Act 1977, as well as the European Convention on Human Rights. In the notice, the Mayor’s Office threatens to ‘exercise its right to self-help’ and remove the occupiers under common law. County Enforcement Group, a notorious bailiff firm, are carrying out the action.

Has this threat to breach S6 CLA 1977 and ECHR been authorised by @MOPACLdn or are they just letting cowboy bailiffs get away with shit as usual? https://t.co/KNmpqCibc4

Bristol: ‘Burn Baby Burn!’

The chant goes up into the air as the flames of the cop van rise higher and higher, burning away a pressure that has been building for far too long.
The cop station’s windows are kicked in to the roaring joy of the crowd, its raining rocks from above on the riot cops from youths who’ve occupied part of its roof. Repeated attacks on the cop lines are visibly putting the fear into them. Bottles rain down on the cop dog unit’s failed attempt to assault the mob from behind. Riot shields and batons liberated from the cops are used to fight back, a piece of their own medicine. Others are caring for people sprayed with mace, while sound systems ring out. Another cop car is burning round the corner, this is like nothing we have seen before…

This is the scene in Bristol in 2021, 10 years since the Stokes Croft & August riots in 2011. The riot that erupted last night was a continuation of our combative memories, but from seeing so many new young uncontrollables it is the beginning of a new wave. Nothing much has changed on this prison island since 2011, if anything the conditions that led to those days are still with us, more repressive than ever. We’re being pushed over the edge, as the system of control demands either lick the boot or have our way of life extinguished. [Read More]

London: Copshop squatted

Squatters and autonomous activists have occupied the former Clapham Common Police Station to demand the withdrawal of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill and the end of the femicide recently highlighted by the murder of Sarah Everard by a serving Met police officer.

As the closest cop shop to where Sarah was last seen, the occupation of this building holds particular importance and meaning at this time. Although the bill has been postponed, we have to keep fighting it to ensure it does not pass. And in the meantime, violence against women continues. We must seize this moment where we find ourselves UNITED in rage, unified in our fight against the ongoing global femicide and to remember people like Sarah, Blessing Olusegun and countless others and to build our fight to end violence against women.

We also seek to bring attention to Section 4 of the Bill which criminalises trespass, a racist move by this Tory government which will affect predominantly travellers and van dwellers but also squatters, protest camps and the homeless. We hope that all those who resist the expansion of police powers in the Tories Bill will also join us in resisting any amended versions of that Bill which retain this racist attack which will make a travelling way of life almost impossible.

Lugano: CS()A Il Molino under eviction threat!

Unnamed comrades, friends who remain
be strong and spread the social truths,
This is the revenge we demand from you.
This is the revenge we demand from you.
(From the song “Addio Lugano bella”, Pietro Gori, 1895)

The social center Il Molino in Lugano (Ticino-Switzerland), is under eviction threat. Following the strong repression of the 8th of march demo in the train station of Lugano, when the police used pepper spray and batons against the demonstrators, politicians (Lega dei Ticinesi, UDC-SVP, PLR-FDP) and local media started a campaign for the eviction of the Molino under the old bourgeois discourse of the “respect of the rules of democracy for all its citizens” and “for social peace and law and order”.

The message is clear: in the tax haven of Lugano, there is no place for a space that does not follow the capitalistic rule of profit. In a city where you have a bank in every street, what would you expect?
We don’t know when it will happen, but it could be soon! So better be prepared! [Read More]

Briançon: 3+4+2 trial – Call for support, call for mobilisation

Spring 2021 will be marked by two political trials, criminalising solidarity with exiles and people without documents.
On 22 April at the court of Gap, two solidarity activists will be tried in the first instance for “aiding the entry and circulation on national territory of people in an irregular situation”. They were arrested on 19 November while helping an Afghan family on French territory.
On 27 May, the “7 of Briançon” were appealed following their conviction on 13 December 2018. They were sentenced in the first instance to up to four months in prison and eight months suspended for participating in an anti-fascist/no border demonstration on 22 April 2018. This spontaneous demonstration aimed to denounce (with the practice) the action of the fascist group Génération Identitaire present the day before at the Echelle pass (Hautes Alpes) and the big militarisation of these days of the border which puts lives in danger.
