Hambach forest (Germany): New forest under direct threat of eviction

10/10/2013 Hambacher Forst – For the second time in one month the police has been attacking the camp. Guarded by riot cops a flying squat of RWE workers equipped with chainsaws and a bulldozer entered the protest site. Without questioning the order that had been given to them they pushed forward the destruction of the planet we‘re all living on, helping to erase one of the oldest forests in Europe. The huge bulldozer just squeezed everything in front of it: young trees, anthills and wasp’s nests as well as rare blue shining mushrooms which have been growing on some barricades were destroyed by this huge technological monster. Everything resisting was chopped to pieces. They left nothing but an aisle of destruction behind. [Read More]

Callout for South London Eviction Resistance, Tuesday 28/5/13

Patmos Lodge, a squat of 2+years with 100 residents due for eviction this Tuesday morning

Patmos Lodge, a large former old peoples home in the Oval/Kennington area of South London, has been squatted for over two years by an ever-changing group of around 100 people. After a long legal battle the squat is now up for eviction this Tuesday 28/5/13. Who knows how long it will lay empty before being turned into more fucking yuppie flats? The residents are a loosely affiliated collection of crews and individuals, with differing political stances (or lack-thereof) and ideas about how an eviction attempt should be handled. Some wish to walk out and not make a fuss, some are actively against any resistance, and some would like to keep and defend their home. Many residents are vulnerable: children, older people, cats, dogs and plenty of people with nowhere else to go and at risk of having to sleep rough.

Heavy Riots rocked Zurich, Switzerland. BINZ squat under eviction threat.

Last night, as 2.500 – 4.000 people took the streets for a “Reclaim the Streets” parade in solidarity with the biggest squat of the city, BINZ, which exists since 2006 and shall be evicted in April! Colourful dressed and with several sound systems and even a car with a live punk band on it, the big crowd moved out of the Binz at 23:00, where only a hand full of police was waiting and totally surprised. Until 23:45 the parade was loud and joyful, pyrotechnics was fired and not a single house on the route towards downtown wasn’t sprayed with dozens of tags, stencils and graffitis. At 23:45, as the crowd reached Wiedikon Train Station, police started firing rubber bullets and tear gas, and with support of their water cannon vehicle, they tried to disperse the RTS.

Vienna: Pizzeria Anarchia in danger of eviction

The following text is about our squat in the 2nd district of Vienna called „Pizzeria Anarchia“ which is now in danger of eviction. The owners of the house are Nery Alaev and Avner Motaev, who are hiding behind their „Castella GmBH“. They offered us to move into the house for six months in November 2011 with the hidden agenda that we will kick out the old tenants. The bottom line is, that we stayed, and are now fighting together with the old tenants (which are now in fact comrades of us) against the landlords.

St. Louis (USA): Squats Served Eviction Notices

As you may already know, some of the squats in St. Louis received sad news earlier this month: eviction notices.

In case you’ve never had the chance to meet them in person, the houses are part of a six-and-a-half year old squatter community. Some of them are quite small and others quite large. Always with the desire to push ourselves in terms of what we thought we were capable of, we created an orchard, vegetable and medicinal herb gardens, an outdoor movie theater, and a wood-working studio in the squatted houses and surrounding lots. Three years ago we started a social space, A Boulder on the Tracks, which itself is the base for benefits, reading groups, discussions, parties, shows, a pamphlet and book distro, a lending library and a weekly food-sharing with our friends and neighbors.

Barcelona: Can Piella will neither resign

Can Piella’s project is again threatened with prudential eviction from 15 February on. However, the collective of neighbours that gives life to it for three years and a half are more determined than ever to continue the social use of the house. The Cerdanyola Court has taken up the precautionary evacuation of Can Piella’s farm, which was paralyzed in October after social mobilization in defense of this place. This interim resumes after the Provincial Court rejected the appeal presented by the neighbors. Thus, February 15 has been set up as the date for “leaving voluntarily” the house, and otherwise the use of the force will be used to dislodge it.

The collective continues relying on dialogue as the only tool to resolve the conflict. And this is because it has been through dialogue that, throughout the 3 years and a half of the project, more and more neighbours of the nearby towns have been interested and engaged in it. A recent example of this success would be the ecological horticulture course that is conducted every Sunday for free, where more than 120 people joined. Even the mayors of the two closest towns have jointly requested the judge to suspend the eviction and to close the case. The only part which with the dialogue has been impossible has been the property, a real estate company of the conglomerate Grupo Alcaraz, which is based on a purely economist view of the estate, incompatible with the social project that the collective is developing . Notre-Dames-Des-Landes: The struggle continues against the airport project

ZAD_eviction_France

The ZAD is an aeroport protest site in the west of France about 15 miles north of Nantes. The aeroport project was first proposed over forty years ago and has faced constant local resistance ever since. The project is in the hands of the multinational company Vinci, who also provide us with such « services » as prisons, motorways and nuclear power stations. It is the particular pet project of Jean Marc Ayrault, the former mayor of Nantes and current Prime Minister of France. In 2009 the area hosted a climate camp, since when the empty houses, fields and forests have been gradually filling up with people disgusted enough by the idea of this project to stay and resist. The reasons for staying are as diverse as the people but the occupiers are united by an idea that fighting capitalism is not just theoretical but something to live in practice every day. [Read More]
