Copenhagen: BlokR action on april 3rd 2008

March 16th 2008

Today activists staged another preparation workshop for BlokR and everything looks to be coming together.

More info in english and german on http://www.blokr.nu

All day / sunday, activists took part in workshops preparing for BlokR on April 3rd. Workshops included gasmask training, blockade training, talks about the tactical situation and a big cross-block building session. Also a lot of the gear which will be used in the action was demonstrated and teams for shield carriers, cube pushers and more started assembling.

It looked very much like everything is coming together for the blocks and all the gear looked very impressive and the activists were very enthusiastic. Soon a big final meeting will be held, where it is hoped as many as possible of the activists planing to do the action will come to talk, train and form affinity groups.

Berlin: Victory for Køpi !

10.March 2008 | KØPI Update…

After the auction in March 2007, and the following cancellations of the house contracts, the future of Køpi was unclear. But since then, the situation has changed in some concrete ways – therefore this update.

It came to long and hard negotiatons with the new owner of the house to secure the Køpi as a living and cultural project.

The first priority in the negotiations was the idea to bring the whole of the Køpi complex, for an extended length of time, under self-management (eg. in the form of a contract that is continueously passed on i.e. that is linked to the project and not specific people so that it has no ending). We wanted to keep the Køpi for as long as possible out of the capitalist economy.

London: A new social centre under siege in Hackney

imc | 29.01.2008 | Free Spaces | Social Struggles | London

A new autonomous space in Hackney sustained two violent attacks this week as representatives of both Howen Estates Ltd., and the Hackney Metropolitan Police attempted to forcibly and illegally gain entry to the newly opened social centre.

At approximately 7:17pm on the evening of Tuesday 22 January, three people claiming to be the owners of the property attempted to kick in the front door and break into the building, refusing to engage in dialogue with the occupiers. No police officers were involved though within 11 minutes nearly 30 members of the local activist community had arrived at the premises to support the occupiers.

Leeds: National Squatters Meeting – 9-10 February 2008

So we are inviting people involved in all squatted autonomous spaces around the UK to meet and discuss the squatting situation and some preparation for the days of action in April. The idea for this meeting is inspired by the recent international meeting in Dijon.

Some of the ideas of what could be discussed at this meeting are…
– Building a stronger network between the squats/Autonomous spaces throughout the UK.
– Initial planning for the days of action.
– The repression and resistance facing Autonomous spaces in the UK.
– How we can make better use of Autonomous spaces in terms of connecting them to issues such as increased surveillance, housing problems, gentrification and the fundamental issue of who owns and controls our land, space and lives.
– The impact of non squatted Autonomous spaces on the squatting movement.
– Breaking out of the “squatting scene”.
– The impact of drugs on the movement.

Sevilla (Spain): Police Winkle Out Stubborn Squatters

Dec. 1st, 2007

It took teams of policemen and fire-fighters nearly 38 hours to remove two squatters from an underground refuge at the end of a tunnel underneath the Casas Viejas building in the Macarena district close to Sevilla city centre that has been earmarked for conversion into residential properties and a community centre.

Iván Díaz, a 28 year old geography lecturer at Sevilla university, lasted 36 hours, but was finally removed at 7.30pm yesterday evening. His fellow protester, Agustín, who is a builder and carpenter, held out for an an extra hour and a half.

The two men had taken refuge in a small cave at the end of a tunnel built over the last twelve months to resist eviction, and had padlocked themselves to concrete blocks in the wall behind an armour-plated door.

A similar siege in London a few years ago was brought to an end after police decided to dig an alternative tunnel, which took several days.

Berlin: One Struggle – One Fight (December 8th 2007)

Police arrested 60 activists at random in a chaotic night for the Berlin police. The demo, 1000 strong, was somewhat delayed by the huge police presence and was at a quick pace before the police surrounded the demo claiming that bottles and paint bombs were thrown at them.

The police then randomly attacked demonstrators with fists, boots, night sticks and pepper spray whilst slowly allowing small groups to leave, in the mean time around ten yuppie cars burnt.

Later in the night there were several squatting actions around the city.

Aubervilliers (Paris suburb): Eviction and Social Cleansing

Call for Solidarity* – Eviction and Social Cleansing in France

Solidarity from the Ministry of the Housing Crisis in Paris

The Ministry of the Housing Crisis was created earlier this January in Paris (Rue de la Banque), very close to the Paris Stock Exchange, when three active groups working towards the Right to a Decent Home, Housing Rights and Evictions, occupied the entire building (DAL, Jeudi Noir and Macaq).

At present more than 50 homeless families lives in the Ministry.

Here below is a call for solidarity for a recent threat of eviction of more than 80 families beacause of the social cleansing for the Rugby World Cup taking place in Paris. As already many evictions experienced in London for the preparation of the Olympic Degeneration (and many more evictions to come).

Geneva (CH): Eradication of alternative culture…

http://www.cave12.org

End of July 2007, Geneva: Cave12 is homeless, as are the inhabitants of the squats Rhino and La Tour !

100 people are deprived of their home; three concert venues, one alternative restaurant which was used for debates and meetings, and a day nursery have disappeared within ten days; the squatters are percieved as profit-makers and criminals; the right of private property has become a justification for everything – This is the current situation in Geneva.

Dear friends, who in a way or another have been linked to one of these collective and autonomous spaces – now a rare and endangered species in Geneva’s wildlife.

We ask for your participation in this very simple action. We cannot remain silent observers of the ongoing eradication of Geneva’s alternative culture.
