Berlin: One year since the eviction of Køpi-Platz

Today [october 15] marks one year since the eviction of Køpi-Platz. Until one year ago we lived in paradise, a community of individuals, without hierarchy and with the freedom for every unique character and personality to be themselves whilst living collectively, sharing this amazingly beautiful and truly special place that to us was home.

Since the eviction, Startezia almost immediately lost their building permit In spite of that in full shady landlord style, Nehls continues to dig pointlessly on the land that he’s not allowed to build or even dig on, as well as placing aggressive security on site, and still using our beautiful fence for their own protection!! Still it stands empty, with no building permit. We lost our home for NOTHING.

Brighton, UK: Park Village Social Centre

As a result of the inadequacies of Sussex University, we – the supporters of the Squat the Slope occupation have taken it upon ourselves to begin creating the spaces that we wish to see on our own campus, and we invite all students, staff and university workers to join us! We have squatted the Park Village Social Centre – one of the many buildings doomed to demolition in the construction of West Slope, and we have opened the space as a radical and inclusive learning centre for all. All week we will be hosting radical workshops and events (for more info, find us on Instagram @squattheslope), and welcoming everyone to participate, hosting events and creating the change that they want to see on campus! Moreover, we intend to construct our own model for a student assembly, in order to present this framework to the Sussex University management, in line with our 3rd demand. Presented with the failings of the University management in this era of climate breakdown and social crises, we believe the future of Sussex campus must be taken into student hands.

All power to the students!

Hebden Bridge, UK: Squatters win

SQUATTERS 1 – LANDLORDS 0

We appeared infront of a judge in Bradford County Court today, which was more that could be said for Royds Ices, alleged landlords of the building. They recieved our defence, and then refused to stop hiding in their consultation room. Complete no shows.

See you next time Royd’s (if you can be arsed).
For now, Disinfo still stands.

Cheers for your support x

Hebden Bridge, UK: Update from Disinfo social centre

As some of you may already know, we have recently received eviction papers, and will be appearing in Bradford County Court this Thursday morning at 10.30am to defend Disinfo against the landlords who are filing for a possession order.
Our time in the building is limited, and your support is vital in every way possible.
Court support, using the space as much as possible, and any financial contributions are very welcome at this time.
We will always resist, and we remain committed to providing an autonomous community space for as long as we occupy this building.
Our open mic is tomorrow (Tuesday 27th), and could well be our last. It’d be great to see as many of you there as possible.
Feel free to message us for more details on how to help us out at court.
Let’s have it. Hebden is stronger together.
Tah,
Disinfo x

UK: Stop HS2 news – Jellytot imprisoned

We are appalled that today our JellyTot has been sentenced to 268 days in prison for breach of a HS2 injunction.

The alleged breach was the 47 day occupation of a tunnel under Bluebell Woods Protection camp in Staffordshire – an occupation that was to protect the forest from needless destruction by HS2.

Many of you will know JellyTot, who has been campaigning tirelessly against HS2 since 2019.

Whilst we applaud JellyTot for his selfless acts and for standing up against the ecodical, corporate machine that is HS2, the Judiciary has once again acted to protect and defend the interests of private companies, as they continue to destroy life on earth.

With this news, we ask anyone who can to donate to this fundraiser that is providing vital support to those imprisoned by HS2.

These funds have been vital in preparing JellyTot for prison, and making sure he was well supported in court. Further funds will go directly towards supporting JellyTot inside – including paying for commissary, phone calls and emails.

We will continue to support and stand in solidarity with JellyTot and will let you know how you can get in touch with him soon.

Activists Against HS2 Prisoner Support Fund– This fund has been set up to support Anti-HS2 Activists who HS2 are trying to send to prison.

Manchester: Persons Unknown Festival blasts back into action

From May 13th to 16th the Persons Unknown Festival returned, after a three-year break, to the same venue used for its inauguration back in 2019. For three days the disused swimming baths and leisure centre in Chorlton, Manchester, was transformed once again into a hub of art, activity and anarchism that is rapidly rising to become a serious contender to take Temporary Autonomous Arts‘ crown as the most ambitious event in the UK squat scene calendar.

PuF was facilitated by the Manchester squat community and ran in partnership with grassroots activist organisations from across the country, with the aim to support and promote a diverse range of campaigns through workshops, art, and live music.

UK: The police want to impose a chilling list of conditions on an anarchist prisoner

UK anarchist Toby Shone was put on trial for terrorism last year. The charges – which were never proven – related to the 325nostate.net anarchist website. Toby was arrested in November 2020 in the Forest of Dean in Southwest England.

The prosecution against Toby was part of a wider police operation known as ‘Operation Adream’. The original charges were that the 325 website – which published reports of direct action – contained material ‘that would be useful to terrorists’, and that the site fundraised for ‘terrorist activities’.

The case is comparable with the 1997 Green Anarchist/Animal Liberation Front – or GANDALF – trial’, which accused the editors of Green Anarchist magazine and the Animal Liberation Front Supporters Group newsletter of “unlawfully inciting persons unknown to commit criminal damage”. However, Operation Adream went one step further by charging Toby with terrorism.

USA: Stop The Sweeps! Stop The War Against Our Homeless Neighbors!

Text from an outreach flyer about resistance to sweeps and evictions of houseless encampments. See below and here (pdf).

Millions of people sleep-rough in tents, doorways, or vehicles across North America. Police threats of violent arrest and seizure of their few belongings can annihilate any semblance of stability on any given day. Sweeps are a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. Homeless folks move to another spot, cops come again to inflict more violence and trauma.

Ann Arbor, USA: Statement from FIGHT Concord Pines

Statement from FIGHT Concord Pines [previously on S!N] re: the events of 4/11 and 4/12
Nuthatch’s tree sit at the Concord Pines site ended last week as a result of horrific violence towards them and their supporters. They descended and exited the site safely. Sometime after they left, the tree and others around it were cut down.
An employee of Toll Brothers’ land clearing contractor, William J. Lang Land Clearing, used his tree-clearing equipment to physically assault a protester at around 7am on Monday morning 4/11 and to fell multiple trees next to Nuthatch’s sit the next day at around 6:15pm, one of which struck the platform and nearly killed Nuthatch. We believe the contractor was aware of Nuthatch’s presence in the tree, as supporters informed him, Bill Lang, and onsite Ann Arbor Police Department officers of it on Monday morning. That morning, a supporter also heard the contractor state that he would not hesitate to kill anyone he found in the trees. When the supporter informed the AAPD officers onsite of this threat, the officers, of course, did nothing.
