Rotterdam (NL): Resistance

In Crooswijk, a district of Rotterdam, a housing corporation (Woonstad Rotterdam) is carrying out wholesale destruction of social housing. They have already demolished a large part of the neighbourhood, and then found that they had no money to rebuild homes, so now half the district is reduced to a huge expanse of sand.

Amsterdam: Paint & Beer cancelled

Dear Friekfriends. We are very sorry but we have decided to cancel Paint&Beer coming Saturday. We didn’t get the permit and if we let it happen anyway, the city council will enforce the law and stop all negotiations considering new places. The graffiti jam will happen behind closed doors. PLEASE don’t show up coz you think there will be something anyway, it will put us in great trouble. We will try to document, film, register the whole “making of”, and we hope there will be a moment we can still show the results to you all for real, we’re working on it. Please spread this message as much as you can to help us. Luv Villa Friekens

Emmen (NL): 10 years Huize Spoorloos

It all started 10 years ago.
The first building was squatted in 2005 by ‘squatgroup Emmen’; an industrial building at the railway platform.
Various initiatives arose spontaneously, amongst others the giveaway store, and an open jam-session on Saturday evenings.
After 1.5 years we had to move away from the railway tracks and ‘moved around’ until in 2007 we came to the ING bank building where we still are now. [Read More]

Den Haag: City takes De Vloek to court. The fight goes on!

Last Friday (5-6-2014), the city of The Hague summoned social center De Vloek to court to expedite the eviction of De Vloek. On July 9th, we have to appear in court for summary proceedings. In this way, the city is also blocking its hollow offer for a replacement location.

On May 27th, the city of The Hague demanded in a letter that we agree to voluntarily depart from De Vloek before July 1st 2015. However, it is in no way apparent that the construction plans are ready for the Top Sailing Center which they want to build in the same location as De Vloek. Our lawyer has made several requests to the city to discuss documents which show that the preparations for the sailing center are in order. The city has repeatedly refused, and our question has also been rejected. Our lawyer has asked for 5 days deferment for the unrealistic response time, but this was also rejected. Thus, we haven’t been able to gain any insight into the actual progress of the plans. The city is purposely trying to build up toward a lawsuit. [Read More]

Amsterdam: We are Here squat evicted and demo attacked

On Friday May 29, 2015 the We Are Here refugee group left the Vluchtgebouw. This is the squatted building at Jan Tooropstraat 649 where they had taken up residence since August 2014, after they were evicted from the Vluchthaven.

The refugees left the building voluntarily, after consultation with the owner, because the building will be demolished. The owner has in the 9 months of their stay been very helpful.

Where the refugees now have to go is unclear. Except temporary accommodation there is no other place. They are looking for a REAL solution, not a shelter where they can only sleep at night and in the morning again have to leave again.

[A mainstream media account suggests they found a warehouse in Amsterdam North]

Amsterdam: ADM, strange things going on around us now

On the morning of June 1st, one of us noticed this excavator near the entrance of the ADM. When this person asked what the plan was, one of the workers replied: “Making an emergency exit”. They couldn’t show their permit, so we told them to stop and come back with the proper paperwork. This is a really strange action! Especially since it’s now the breeding season…

Later on the police came to deal with the situation. They told us that no permit was required. The only thing needed is to notify the authorities and this had been done. So the workers are now continuing…. [Read More]

The Hague (NL): Autonoom Centrum Den Haag eviction threat

The Autonomous Center (AC) located at Willem van Outhoornstraat 17 in The Hague is being threatened with eviction. The AC has already been squatted for 5 years and provides space for such activities as a vegan folks-kitchen and the alternative bookstore Opstand. During the past 5 years, nights devoted to information, films, and debate have been organized, and there is also room for music and meetings.

Amsterdam: Students occupy building then leave

Today [April30], on the day before International Workers’ Day, we occupied the Service and Information Centre of the University of Amsterdam to demand attention for the exploitation and precarity of workers within the university, and outside of it.

In a phone call with the temporary head of the board Dymph van den Boom, we confronted her with questions concerning the insecurity and pressure under which workers are forced to produce and transfer knowledge in the neoliberal university.

Amsterdam: ADM, Property speculators want to run off with public money

The ADM is the last big cultural freehaven in Amsterdam, Netherlands and perhaps Europe. An organically grown village in the Western Harbor where 130 creative people have been living and working for over 18 years. They have now been summoned by the owners to leave the premises. The owners presented vague plans, which may cause a vast financial loss for the municipality.
