Netherlands: 15 years of anti-squatting legislation. Villa Ivicke resquatted

October 5 update: On Saturday evening, October 4, Villa Ivicke was evicted. Around 25 people were reportedly arrested inside the building and released during the night.

Wassenaar — Today, on October 4, 2025, a large group of housing activists announces the squatting of Villa Ivicke. After 3 years of vacancy, this famous Wassenaar haunted house is finally inhabited again. The group wants to breathe new life into the cold palace, where further decay lurks as the years go by. They strive for a close-knit residential group that will take care of the building and the surrounding estate.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the squatting ban, this is a gift for everyone who could no longer bear the desolate sight of the caged monument along the N44 road. If it is up to the squatters, light will soon shine from heated rooms again and the vegetable garden will be hoeed to their heart’s content.

Villa Ivicke was first squatted in 2018. In 2022, the residential group had to leave the building, after a long lawsuit filed by the municipality, because it was supposedly going to be used by the owner. This is of course sheer nonsense: Bever Holding has only one employee and he enjoys his retirement abroad. A fat lie that has been confirmed for everyone with 3 years of vacancy. So it’s high time to put it back into use. [Read More]

The Hague: Valkenboskerk resquatted and violently evicted

Vacant for years

Since Sunday 31 August, the Valkenboskerk in The Hague on the Loosduinsekade has been squatted. A group of residents has taken possession of the building, which had been vacant for more than 7 years. In 2018, neighboring residents already managed to enforce with the municipality that it will not be demolished. In 2020, 070 Vastgoed bought the building and made plans to turn it into luxury apartments. Which is completely unaffordable for the residents in the neighborhood. But 070 Vastgoed is unfortunately known as an elitist real estate company. They only make hotels or luxury apartments. With which they make the capital more and more unaffordable for the people who live.

However, after 5 years of being owned by 070 Vastgoed, the church is still empty, to the great frustration of the local residents, even if the church alone will be preserved. Windows have been smashed, fire alarms go off often, there are often burglaries, the garden is completely overgrown and the building is increasingly being covered by graffiti. The only thing the neighbors of the church see is decay and an unreachable owner who does not want to talk to them. [Read More]

Athens: No squatter in prison! Campaign for the court expenses of Koukaki Squats Community

It was March 2017 when we first opened the door of 45 Matrozou str. and began repairing the building so that it could house our struggles, desires, needs and bodies. And when these, a few months later, could no longer fit in one building we opened two more buildings that were rotting abandoned in the neighborhood of Koukaki, 21 Panaitoliou str. and the Blue House (3 Arvali str.). This is how Koukaki Squats Community was created in the center of Athens.

From then until 2020, Koukaki Squats Community had been a political community that combined anarchist struggle with communal life. The doors of its houses were open for those who wished to fight back against state violence and injustice, for people who needed shelter or wished to use its public structures, for those who sought a collective way of life. It was also an open political and social space accessible to the inhabitants of one of the most gentrified neighborhoods in Athens. [Read More]

Chania, Greece: Rosa Nera evicted for a second time, call for mobilization

The eviction of the Rosa Nera squat and the Rectorate squat on april 1st 2024 demonstrated Belvedere’s intentions to go ahead with its plans to turn the complex into a luxury hotel. According to a document that surfaced, the company has received the green light to start sampling work at the sites of the squat, despite the stated opposition of bodies, unions and associations of the city, even the city council itself, to the hotelization on Kastelli hill.
According to confirmed information, this work will start on Monday, April 8, by private crews that have been hired, most likely by Belvedere. We call on all struggling sections of the society of Chania not to leave Belvedere and its plans on a green branch and to block any work that is going to be done, starting Monday.
We call for mobilization on wednesday, april 10, at 7 a.m., outside the squat. [Read More]

Montreuil: La Baudrière evicted

This morning, Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 6am in Montreuil (France), took place the eviction of La Baudrière, anarcha-feminist squat. This place was, since November 2021, a space of habitation, political organization and care, which has seen many people pass by and hosted many struggles. La Baudrière defended itself with confetti and barricades to resist as long as possible, to continue to keep alive the feminist queer autonomy. The people on site held for 5 hours to the assaults of the cops, especially on the roof.

Police resources used were astonishing: more than 100 cops on site, including the Brav-M, the BAC, the BRI, a climbers unit, a private security group, a fire truck, Enedis technicians, 3 drones… The neighborhood was completely cordoned off for half a day. [Read More]

London: The Met shows its true nature…yet again

The Metropolitan Police deployed its riot cops recently in a disturbing show of force. A group of homeless people calling themselves the Autonomous Winter Shelter (AWS) occupied the disused Sisters of Mercy convent in Shadwell, Tower Hamlets, London in November 2022.

The owner sent a complaint to the Met in December. They subsequently carried out an investigation. In April 2023 they sent a letter to the squatters requesting that they leave the building.

They then visited the site on many occasions but were denied entry. Forty people were living at the ex-convent.

On June 1st they showed up in force with a large number of cops in riot gear. 29 people were dragged out of the building, with no time to collect their belongings, whilst others fled when they saw the riot cops. A crowd which gathered in support were threatened with raised batons by the riot thugs. [Read More]

Athens: about the repressive operation and the defense of Prosfygika

We are still here … The Community remains strong and united … Prosfygika will win!!!!

On 22/11/2022, at 5.45 am, all kinds of police forces, riot police MAT, state security, Delta, OPKE and EKAM, invaded the squated neighbourhood of Prosfygika on Alexandra Avenue and more specifically the 7th block, on Tikhonidos Street (behind the Elpis Hospital). They broke through the outer door of the building, breaking it. Then they went up to the second floor where two community companions, the arrested companion and another refugee from Iran live. They kidnapped both of them and proceeded to carry out a thorough search of the building. At the same time, the entire neighborhood was surrounded by the repression forces, not only at the site of the search but in total, attempting to occupy it.

The operation was spotted by the community’s daily morning patrol who began to inform the neighborhood. Comrades and compañeras took to the rooftops to wake up the rest of us. Not knowing exactly what was happening, we recognized that the operation was limited to a specific building, but we also realized the serious possibility of a general attack. In retrospect, we judge that the invasion that took place was premeditated from the morning. All the time that elapsed until the moment of the invasion was the result of preparation, judgment on costs and gains, as well as a measurement of our determination, by the officials of the GADA and the ministry. Paris: Ambassade des Immigrés squat evicted

This morning, Wednesday 19 September, at 4:30 am the Ambassade des Immigrés squat was evicted in violence. There were as many police officers as inhabitants.
Women, men, children, sick and handicapped people were awakened by the doors of their rooms being crushed by the CRS, police and gendarmes. While the people were being evicted, nearly fifteen cop trucks blocked Saulnier Street and the neighborhood. The inhabitants of the squat were not able to recover their belongings or the papers they kept in their rooms…
If we didn’t believe promises, there was no way to anticipate the violence, the repression and the illegality in which the inhabitants of the Ambassade des immigrés were evicted this morning.
The current emergency concerns 6 people who were rounded up when their names were on the list of people to be housed and who are currently being held in administrative detention. They are detained on rue de l’Aubrac at the police station specialized in the arrest of undocumented migrants. These 6 people risk being sent to the CRA (Centre de Rétention Administrative) and deported to Eritrea, Sudan and Mali.

We demand their immediate release without conditions! [Read More]
