This is a statement by those who opened up the Nottingham Freespace at the old Tory party social club in Lenton this week. We opened up the space in order to provide a radical social centre in Lenton that could connect to and support the strike on November 30th. Just a quick update and some thoughts from a friend of the Factory.
I managed to take a bit of time away from working and went down to see what was happening at The Factory. Cops and robbers were standing around “protecting” the building and photographing the public. It has been completely evicted as far as I can tell. Chatted to a few folk who were about so this is a mainly a second hand account. I suspect that the occupiers will comment later after they have got some rest.

Kenya: Thousands left homeless after Kyang’ombe demolition
Kyang’ombe slum which is situated around the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has been demolished. According to JKIA officials, the slum sits in the direct flight path, which poses a great risk to the safety of planes as well as endangering the lives of the slum dwellers.
Muungano Wa Wanavijiji and local residents believe that there is more that meets the eye. The residents were being evicted because private developers with powerful political connections have acquired the land illegally.

Amsterdam: Persistent resistance at the 01-11-2011 eviction wave
Today, the 1st of November 2011, there were quite a few squats on the list to be evicted in Amsterdam, including a popular social centre and squats where the owners did not start a courtcase yet.
After the successful “reclaim the hood” manifestation (posting in dutch language, but with photos) the squatters in Amsterdam started preparing for the “eviction circus” on 1/11/11, and that went very well.
It took the cops more than a full 12 hour day to evict more than five squats where people were inside with lockons (photo from webcam). This was a clear victory for the squatters.

We are people who live in or use the Factory Social Centre, the building on the corner of Cave Street and Portland Square. A company called the PG Group wants to develop the building we are occupying. They plan to turn it into luxury flats, offices, a cafe, an art gallery and a small health centre. Aside from the possible health centre, we don’t see their development plans as good for this area. Also, when all other information suggests that the NHS is cutting back on public outpatient nursing, we have doubts about what kind of heath centre it would be and if it will really happen.
We don’t want to be moved on and we don’t want this building to be developed. We are asking for your support.

Athens (Greece): Skaramanga anarchist squat evicted and reoccupied
This morning (29.07) the Skaramanga squat in Athens was evicted by heavy police forces, following the legal action by the building’s owners. One person who entered the building to be present at the eviction proceedings has been arrested. Another seventy people who tried to approach the building were pushed back by heavy police forces.

Chiapas: Land evictions in the Lacandon Forest…

Indigenous communities in the Lacandon Forest in Chiapas are being violently evicted by federal police and army forces, in support of corporate plans for oil palm expansion and other activities, including tourism falsely called eco-tourism.
On 21st and 22nd January this year, indigenous communities living in two villages in the Biospherre Reserve in the Montes Azules region were violently evicted and had their homes, all their belongings, crops and trees destroyed. Please write to the authorities in Mexico and in Chiapas state to support local communities ’and organisations’ calls for an immediate end to the evictions, for return of the comunities to their land, restitution for the damage which has been caused, the prosecution of those responsible and for an end of oil palm monocultures in the area:

Police in the spanish capital have moved against El Patio Maravillas, a building which has been occupied by squatters since 2007, “Typically Spanish” reports:

A similar action last year failed because of public resistance. What accounts for the difference this year, I don’t know.
The squat apparently was a popular and busy cultural center, but people who lived nearby on Calle del Acuerdo in the university neighborhood called Malasa? routinely complained about noise.

On December 31st 2009, a judge of the Brugge court ruled that the eviction notice passed against the occupiers of 2002 may still be used to evict the present occupiers of the Lappersfort forest in Brugge, Belgium. On Tuesday last week, a representative robot from Fabricom GTI was quoted in the media saying that they would follow the judicial path, and were planning to sit down and discuss the eviction with the Brugge police. This claim that they will follow the “legal” path isnt something we’re relying on, and we are expecting an eviction any day now. This morning (Thursday 7th January, 2010), the police snipped open part of our fence and broke their way in to the forest. Four of them had a little piggy tour, taking photos and being generally mysterious and stupid. One of us heard them sneaking around in the night, which means they must have cut the fence at night then snuck in during the morning. As the police start doing such things here, and the fact that Fabricom Suez already has an eviction notice, can only make us think that the eviction is just around the corner…..
Struggle for squats in Prague
On the 30th of June the Milada squat was evicted. The house was not a part of the cadastre, because it was meant to be demolished years ago. This hasn’t happened and the squatters occupied an INVISIBLE house, because for the authorities it hasn’t legally existed. This was 11 years ago. The place changed a lot, people left and came, at the moment noone from the former collective was living in the house. Few years ago, the place got through a crisis and with a new collective, more actions were held and Milada built quite a strong background and managed to cooperate with other struggles. Now, the controller of the building (UIV – Institute for Information in Education) owned by state tried to make Milada a legally acknowledged place again, though it is not sure, if they were really succesful, anyway they ordered an eviction, and paid a security agency with neonazis as employees. They used violence, hurt people sitting on the roof, destroyed all accessories of Milada and completely damaged the roof. Erfurt (Germany): Squat evicted on 16th April. Factory demolished.
The squat in Erfurt/Germany was located at the area of the former company Topf & Söhne. During the period of National-socialism in Germany this company produced crematories as well as parts of the gas chambers for concentration- and extermination camps like Buchenwald and Auschwitz. In the early hours of 16th April 2009 the squat in Erfurt was evicted. The eviction started around 6 am with cops rappeling from helicopters to some roofs of the squatted area. At the same time they broke into the backside of the area with a special tank and demolishing gear. The eviction was lead by the SEK (a special force of the german police), with the use of teargas. In the upper floor of the squat some persons who were chained to a concrete block could delay the eviction for some time. Around 9.30 am all people had been removed from the squatted area. All the people from the area and the people from a sitting blockade in front of the squatted area were arrested. All of them were released in the next day, but there will surely be charges against them. Immediately after the eviction all buildings on the squatted area were destroyed – so now what’s left of our squat is a heap of ruins. All other historical buildings on the non-squatted part of the area had been destroyed in the last months before the eviction. Now the former administration building is the only building which is left and should become a historical place.
