Amsterdam: New squat Valreep wins courtcase for opening event

September 10th, 2011

Valreep is a new squat in Amsterdam East. People there have been working very hard to clean up all the mess inside and make it into a social centre.  The District Council (Local Government) was not amused, and came very often to do “inspections”.  The Valreep people announced their official opening happening, and then the day before the opening the District Council came with the announcement to forbid the happening, otherwise a fine of 25 000 (!) euros would have to be paid.

Thessaloniki: Police intimidation against Libertatia squat

On Friday midday, September 9th, 2011, more than 100 police motorcycles appeared on the streets that surround Libertatia squat. Solidaritarians immediately reached the squat in fear of eviction. Cops invaded only the building’s front yard, but two comrades were detained and held in the city’s police headquarters. Both have now been released. This police operation was intended to intimidate a part of the radical social movement, just one day before the scheduled gatherings, manifestations and demonstrations ahead of the 76th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).

The presence of repressive forces in the streets of Thessaloniki is already immense. From Saturday, traffic will be blocked in downtown streets, and all vehicles will be forbidden to approach the facilities of TIF. [Read More]

Greece: The ‘Metapolitefsi’ has legally ended

On Wednesday noon, August 24th [2011], Container squat in the University campus in Zografou, Ilissia district, has been invaded and evicted. The occupied container was smashed, and all items were removed and confiscated. Students from the occupied Refectory building at the Propylaea in downtown Athens called for a discussion–briefing at 9 pm regarding these developments.

Hours earlier, about 2,000 students demonstrated in central Athens while demonstrations also took place against the education reform bill in Thessaloniki, Heraklion (Crete) and Patras. Nevertheless, the Greek parliament voted in the education reform bill submitted by the minister of Education Anna Diamantopoulou which included some of the most sweeping changes the country’s educational system has seen in living memory.

Thessaloniki (Greece): Delta squat threatened with eviction

DELTA SQUAT WILL REMAIN
IT’S NOT FOR RENT

In late July the Alexandrio Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki publicly announced its intention to offer the building in 13, Egnatia Street for hire, a building which has been occupied for four years.

After years of neglect, this space became through collective processes, from derelict and inaccessible building, a free and social project open to all. Its operation is based on equality and solidarity, against and away from every form of State or private management. Decisions are taken collectively and horizontally, based on our needs, wishes and possibilities. [Read More]

Hamburg (Germany): Access all areas… Solidarity with Rote Flora !

July 2011

Access all areas
International day of action against capitalist urban development and gentrification

Since the beginning of this year, the Rote Flora in Hamburg is threatened by sale and eviction due to the formal owner’s announcement to sell the property profitably. The project has originated in 1989 from the resistance against the intended musical theatre “Phantom of the Opera” in the Hamburg quarter Schanzenviertel. For more than 20 years, it was able to refuse agreements and political misappropriation and to represent a politically disturbing factor as an autonomous squatted centre. To this day, Flora is both the point of origin of demonstrations and political intervention and a non-commercial location for parties, events, self-help and a meeting place for political groups.

Vienna (Austria): Have you ever squatted the heart of the beast?

July 10th, 2011
http://linksunten.indymedia.org/de/node/42802

In the past couple of days, a group of people in Vienna, fed up of the increasing daily repression of life and the lack of free social space, have taken over an abandoned building in the Ottakring part of the city.
Ottrakring is ground zero of Real Estate speculation in Vienna. The people are also fed up of rising rents and abusive landlords in Vienna. We are also fed up with how the city government not only unconditionally supports the landlords but also how the city is doing less and less to help tenants and other social layers who find life in Vienna more and more unbearable. We’re comprised of Austrians, immigrants, women, men, youth, middle aged, students, workers and unemployed. We are artists, intellectuals, and free thinkers. We represent a true microcosm of Vienna and Austria.

Notre-Dame-des-Landes / Nantes (France): A land occupation to make an autonomous village

The ZAD, July 9, 2011,

We are a hundred, we just occupied the land in order to make a autonomous village, to overcome the fight against G8 we gathered together to start to build up a concrete moment of alternatives and struggles.

It’s been a while that we think about the idea to change the way of protest against G8 summits, against pressure, the expected appointment, police traps and event hopping.
By preparing this long term “Camp” which we want to call village, here on La ZAD (Zone to defend) we want to expand this mobilization, take our time for reflection and exchange, linking the global and local struggle…. Our rage is intact: our energy too! [Read More]

Notre-Dame-des-Landes / Nantes (France): News from the No G camp

July 8th, 2011

A lot of energy right now !

If there are not much news from our side actually, it means that we are up to running after material instead of computers…

Things take shape, apart a mix of problems which always appear last minute, there are much more nice “last minute” surprises, the pleasure of being more and more numerous every day since our arrival here on La ZAD (“Lasad”) and the amazing shelter from our friends from the squat l’InterMinables and our neighbours on “Lasad”.

Final preparations are underway, the land will be invested this Saturday the 9 July, the more we will be the better it is ! [Read More]
