Thessaloniki: Police intimidation against Libertatia squat

On Friday midday, September 9th, 2011, more than 100 police motorcycles appeared on the streets that surround Libertatia squat. Solidaritarians immediately reached the squat in fear of eviction. Cops invaded only the building’s front yard, but two comrades were detained and held in the city’s police headquarters. Both have now been released. This police operation was intended to intimidate a part of the radical social movement, just one day before the scheduled gatherings, manifestations and demonstrations ahead of the 76th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).

The presence of repressive forces in the streets of Thessaloniki is already immense. From Saturday, traffic will be blocked in downtown streets, and all vehicles will be forbidden to approach the facilities of TIF. [Read More]

Greece: The ‘Metapolitefsi’ has legally ended

On Wednesday noon, August 24th [2011], Container squat in the University campus in Zografou, Ilissia district, has been invaded and evicted. The occupied container was smashed, and all items were removed and confiscated. Students from the occupied Refectory building at the Propylaea in downtown Athens called for a discussion–briefing at 9 pm regarding these developments.

Hours earlier, about 2,000 students demonstrated in central Athens while demonstrations also took place against the education reform bill in Thessaloniki, Heraklion (Crete) and Patras. Nevertheless, the Greek parliament voted in the education reform bill submitted by the minister of Education Anna Diamantopoulou which included some of the most sweeping changes the country’s educational system has seen in living memory.

Athens (Greece): Skaramanga anarchist squat evicted and reoccupied

This morning (29.07) the Skaramanga squat in Athens was evicted by heavy police forces, following the legal action by the building’s owners. One person who entered the building to be present at the eviction proceedings has been arrested. Another seventy people who tried to approach the building were pushed back by heavy police forces.

22.56 GMT+2 A solidarity gathering has been called for the anarchist arrested during the attempted eviction of Skaramanga squat, tomorrow (30.7) at 10.30 a.m. at the Euelpidon courthouse in Athens.

15.36 GMT+2 Police have left, and the anarchists have reoccupied the Skaramanga squat in Patision Ave, moments ago. It is crucial for people to support the new occupation immediately. An assembly has been called for 6pm tonight to discuss today’s events. [Read More]

Joint fascist/police attack against the Skaramanga squat in Athens is fought back by people defending the building At approximately 00.15 GMT+2 (around 45 minutes ago) fascists aided by police tried to attack the Skaramanga squat, in Athens. The squatters resisted the tear gas and the fascist attack, turning Patision avenue in a battlefield – soon after, the fascists were forced to retreat to Ipirou street.

SOLIDARITY WITH ROZBRAT SQUAT -IN POLAND- THREATENED WITH REPRESSION

Rozbrat squat, active for 16 years now in the city of Poznan, the longest occupied space in Poland, houses social, political and cultural activities that oppose the world of Authority and profit, of social and class divisions. Today it is one more of the self-organized spaces of resistance which are facing repressive plans. Some of the projects being housed in the squat -connecting it with struggles against globalization, class exploitation, State repression, persecution and imprisonment of strugglers, pillage of nature, racism, war etc.- are the Anarchist Federation and the Anarchist Black Cross of Poznan, the Workers’ Initiative, the Anarchist Library and Trojka publishing house.

On March 26, 2010 an auction has been scheduled for the purchase of the premises where the largest part of the squat is situated so that the debts of the previous owning company can be paid out. It is a process which started in January 2008, when the squat was “visited” by a bailiff with the assistance of the police in order to estimate the value of the ground.

Keratsini (Greece): March for Resalto

More than a thousand march in Keratsini in solidarity to the 21 comrades arrested during the police raid on Resalto, the anarchist social centre of the proletarian suburb of Peiraeus.

More than a thousand protesters marched on Saturday afternoon [December 19th, 2009] in the industrial proletarian suburb of Peiraeus, Keratsini, against state terror and the police invasion of Resalto, the local anarchist social centre two weeks ago which resulted in the arrest of 21 people who are being accused of preparing explosives for… some empty beer bottles and a few litters of heating kerosene found in the remises. Initially the state accused the arrested for terrorism but the state interrogator subsequently dropped the charges. The invasion of the 4th of december had resulted to a sponteneous local attack against the police forces guarding the centre a few hours later and to the occupation of the Keratsini city hall which was too invaded by the police with 42 people arrested despite the opposition of the mayor, the local council and the lawyer association of the town who have subsequently published official decisions condemning the repression.

Athens (Greece): Statement by the Skaramanga squat about a recent arrest

On Friday, 13th November Antigoni, a 22-year old comrade was arrested only meters away from the Patission and Skaramanga squat in Athens. Accused with participation to the “Conspiracy of Cells of Fire”, she was released on bail only days later – a solid proof of the state’s non-existent evidence against her. The following text on her arrest was published by the Patission and Skaramanga squat’s assembly on 16 November:

Lesvos (Greece): Roof of Pagani occupied

This morning at 10 o’clock [august 31st, 2009], ten noborder activists from Austria, Sweden, Spain, France, Czech Republik, Portugal, the Netherlands and Germany occupied the roof of the refugee jail in Pagani. With this action, we are increasing the pressure to finally get Pagani closed.

During the noborder camp, we were able to witness the brutal consequences of the European border regime here in Lesvos. A ship employed by the European border agency Frontex is hunting refugee boats, the Greek coast guard and the Navy do the dirty work. Human lifes don’t count.

Athens suburbs (Greece): Prapopoulou squat attacked, one immigrant beaten

Fascist attack against a squat in Greece.

On 1st of August 2009 at 02:00 AM two thugs in helmets stopped with their motorcycle by the Prapopoulou squat and using iron bars they tried (unsuccessfully) to break doors and windows.

By pure chance at that moment a homeless immigrant, friend of the squat, was inside. When the thugs took notice of him, they launched a savage attack with their iron bars, hitting his head and body while engaging in racist hate speech. They then left, leaving behind them a container filled with petrol.

Neighbours heard the attacked man pleading for help and called an ambulance and nursed him. The fascist thugs failed to damage the squat. The general assembly was mobilised immediately, including comrades in solidarity. The fascists managed to injure, fortunately nor seriously, an immigrant.

Thessaloniki: Arson attempt against Fabricka Yfanet squat

Fabricka Yfanet is a former 19,500 m² factory in Thessaloniki (Greece) that has been occupied by people demanding their freedom from political and economic oppression since 20 March 2004.

On Saturday morning, 25 July 2009 at 5.05, arsonists attempted to put our squat on fire by lighting barbecue tanks at the main iron gate. They left a bag containing six gas cans, one 4-litre petrol canister, and a box of fire-starters.

The explosion could not escape the attention of squatters on standby inside the occupation for its protection (such measures were taken after the government threats against free spaces). With the help of neighbours we put down the fire, and fortunately absolutely no damage was done at all.
