DENUNCIATION OF THE PRIVATISATION OF THE PARK,
STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF ANCIENT TREES!
RECLAIM OUR COMMON SPACE!
Since May 2013, the collective “Michel Lévy” took over legal challenges brought to the court by residents near the park. They are fighting to avoid the square Michel Levy and it’s trees, centuries old, from disappearing. Notably a “remarkable” tree is listed in the national register of the association ARBES [Remarkable Trees: Appraisal, Research, Study and Protection].
Wednesday morning, a chainsaw went into action and began it’s destructive work! Already FIVE small trees have been uprooted and a whole part of the hill of the park demolished…
Faced with the pressure from the local people, they are attempting to push on.
We can not let such a scandal continue, nor leave room for other equipment, such as chainsaws for example!
Thursday evening (22nd January), a group of zadists inhabited the park to ensure the defense of this green and friendly space in the city centre.
This project is nonsense and has many gray areas and legal irregularities. The collective “Michel Lévy” have denounced this repeatedly, but the Mayor of Marseille, Laure-Agnès Caradec (assistant of green spaces), Yves Moraine (mayor of the 6th and 8th district), such as his predecessor Dominique Tian, don’t care; just as they laugh at protecting the few parks in the city centre.
They remain deaf to the calls from the people of all districts where similar situations occur.
The planning policy of the city is thanks to the property developers who manage a speculative operation in the whole city, which has the effect of transforming the soul of this popular city.
We must conserve this urban natural space for the generations present and to come!
We call for a general mobilisation for the protection of “green spaces” that have been destroyed, and against the logic of property speculation, everywhere and everyday all over the city!
