Yesterday, one apartment was evicted by the police on Tweebosbuurt. On their way back, the police stopped in front of one of the squats in the neighborhood and tried to get in. This place is protected by house peace and an ongoing legal procedure.
The inhabitants went outside to talk to the police and ask them to stop. The police refused to give the reason of their presence, and asked for everyone’s ID (some people were even still inside) without legal justifications. Two employees from Vestia were with them, laughing at the situation. Some inhabitants refused this abusive and illegal control. Somebody was arrested. They brought them at Zuidplein Police Station for a few hours, and physically forced them to give fingerprints and took pictures of their face. They got out of the police station 4 hours latter and came home safely.
We though it was going to calm down, but we were wrong. Today, we saw the neighborhood police going back and forth Tweebosstraat controlling people’s ID. One of the inhabitants rang to the door of one of the squat and got arrested almost immediately while he was walking in. Some people went downstairs immediately and asked the police the reason for this arrest. They wouldn’t say. They asked for everyone’s ID again, without any legitimate motive. People insisted to know the reason of the arrest, and they answered “You don’t have anything to do with this kind of people, go home and let us do our job”. Most likely, this was a racist statement because the person that was arrested was obviously not Dutch. They threatened that person of being “removed” of the country.
This is obviously the beginning of a harassment campaign against squatters in the neighborhood. Vestia lost their court case and failed to evict Tweebosbuurt by legal means, so they’re now working with the police to make our lives so hard that we leave by ourselves. There have been two unjustified arrests in two days.
We’re not going to let them do that to our community.
We’ll not let ourselves be intimidated by abusive ID controls and arrests.
We’re not leaving.
Two other evictions and 19 new arrests in Tweebosbuurt
After the illegal eviction based on ridiculous reasons, the police brutality towards the people that in the end got arrested, maltreated, forced to give out their ID’s and fingerprints and kept way more than needed after the identification, and Vestia’s people making fun of the situation, we are here once again.
19 people were arrested today during the illegal eviction of two squats opened for more than a week. That adds up to 21 arrestations in two days.
Most people were released but police stills keeps two people in the station that might be facing deportation.
We won’t give up! We won’t let them stop us!
Tomorrow there is going to be a solidarity dinner for the people and the neighborhood in Poortgebouw in Rotterdam at 18.00!
The state can evict places, but they cannot evict ideas!
News about Tweebosbuurt’s prisoners.
Most of people have been released yesterday night or today morning, but one person is still in detention. They have been transfered to foreigner’s detention and a court-case is planned on the 5th of Febuary. We don’t even know what the charges against them are and if they’re still facing a risk deportaiton.
We heard from visual witness of the arrestation that they’ve been badly hurt during the arrerst. We know that their life is not in danger, but we had no other information about their health condition.
We also realized that the cat was missing. We discovered that the police also “arrested” the cat. We’re currently trying to find a way to free him.
