Belo Horizonte: Casa Encantada South American Tour

We are thrilled to announce that in the months of July and August, members of Kasa Invisível will once again cross the imaginary lines of nation-states to expand connections, forge new bonds, and strengthen existing ones—this time in the Southern Cone!

The goal of this tour is to travel through Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil to launch the book Casa Encantada – A Portrait of the Struggle for Housing in Belo Horizonte, recently translated into Spanish thanks to the voluntary efforts of comrades in three countries.

Beyond the book, we will bring debates, graphic art, and shared learning, exchanging notes and experiences with local movements and collectives about the differences and similarities in our local struggles. Additionally, we will explore ways to strengthen mutual support among social centers and anti-capitalist occupations across Latin America.

WE DO NOT RESPECT BORDERS

With the support of our community and some fundraising campaigns, in 2024 we carried out a book tour for Casa Encantada in 20 cities across 12 European countries, featuring the English version. We also made a quick stop in the African island nation of Cabo Verde to hold workshops, present the book, and share the work of Kasa Invisível in the context of the struggle for housing as a universal right. These experiences allowed us to exchange ideas and collaborate with various occupations and collectives from other continents.

This was only possible thanks to our vast mutual aid network, which supported us in countless ways: donating to our crowdfunding campaign, translating, proofreading, printing, and distributing copies of the book across Europe, as well as purchasing books and other materials along the way, and providing us with shelter and food for two months.

This year, between late July and August 2025, we aim to expand the reach of this project even further, sharing our experiences while learning from different territories in neighboring countries: Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. For the first time, we will also launch the Spanish edition of the book and visit our closest neighbors to discuss with comrades who share the struggle here in the Global South—where conditions, much like in Brazil, are very different and materially more limited than in Europe.

HOW TO SUPPORT?

Our Gira Sudaka (Southern Tour) is already underway with the support of many people organizing events and the volunteer work of comrades from Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil who translated and proofread the text for the Spanish edition.

We still need to cover major expenses, such as printing and logistics for the books in Chile, as well as flights and bus tickets across the continent. To do this, we’ve launched another campaign on Fire Fund—a crowdfunding platform for radical and anti-authoritarian projects worldwide.

Every donation helps strengthen this South American internationalist initiative!

Let’s not forget that even the equivalent of a cup of coffee in Euros can cover entire meals in Latin America!

Every coin, literally, counts 😉

The book Casa Encantada:

The book Casa Encantada features illustrations by Renato Baruq and photographs by Cadu Passos. These two activists documented at least 20 abandoned old houses in the central region of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, between 2022 and 2023—spaces that became social and cultural hubs for people in vulnerable situations, especially during the pandemic. The book includes interviews that tell the stories of these buildings and their residents in their own voices.

About the collective:

Kasa Invisível is a set of three buildings built in the 1930s in the heart of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Occupied in 2013 by an autonomous and self-organized collective, Kasa is a living space and a social center that offers free activities open to the whole community.
