Greece : Communique by the squat Lelas Karagianni 37 about the reoccupation of Villa Amalias

Repression can’t bend the militants

We are experiencing historical moments. Let’s act accordingly. A swarm of political lackeys of the local and international capital, consisted of fascists, thieves and impostors of all sorts, from the extreme right to the so-called democratic left – assisted by the controlled mass media and the parastate gangs -, has been shamelessly looting, oppressing and terrorizing the people. In order for their plans to succeed without a hitch they have imposed a state of emergency which is nothing but a political dictatorship camouflaged with a parliamentary cloak. The bankrupt political-economic system, in order to perpetuate its miserable existence or at least to buy itself time before its upcoming decomposition, wants to force the silence and submission of the plebian social layers by means of either manipulation and compulsion by the media propaganda or brute force and terrorism used on resisting people by state repression and parastate gangs.

The whole recent period, since the subordination of the country under international political and economic control, is marked by continuous and relentless attacks against the lowest social layers and especially against the political, social and class parts which resist creating a barrier against the emergence of modern totalitarianism. Eminent manifestations of these attacks against the weakest and/or the resistant parts of society were: the violent dispersal of the strike of workers in the steel industry lasting several months, the breaking off of rallies and demonstrations by riot police resulting in serious injuries and hundreds of arrests, the manhunt of thousands of immigrants without papers through the euphemistically called “operation Xenios Zeus”, the repression of mobilizations in the neighborhoods like in Zografou, Athens and of local resistances against the looting of nature like in North-East Chalkidiki, the repression of anti-fascist mobilizations and the torturing of anti-fascist militants in the police headquarters, the assaults against squats and self-organized spaces of struggle throughout the country by the state repression forces and parastate gangs.

This vast repressive attack is also accompanied by a vast ideological propaganda meant to incriminate the whole society and especially its weakest and/or resistant parts, for the bankruptcy of the political-economic system. The aim of this propaganda is the slandering and isolation of the weakest and of those who resist so that the attacks against them can be justified. Most recently, with the violent eviction of Villa Amalias squat, we all witnessed a whole campaign of mud-slinging and slandering against squats in order for them to become isolated, disdained and as a result repressed as smoothly as possible. Within this campaign, the deceitful, unlawful and commonly disdained politicians who govern together with their lackeys in the media tried to present squats and breeding-grounds of “unlawfulness”. However, someone with basic knowledge and not solely informed by the fixed up news broadcasts, knows that squats are breeding-ground for self-housing, collective life, political, social and cultural activities and struggles.

However, this whole attempt to break squats as breeding-grounds of the struggle, has been a pitiable failure. Thousands of people rallied round the squats, due to the repression of Villa Amalias, taking to a large number of manifestations and mobilizations which are continued and escalated. What’s more, this morning’s (1/9) reoccupation by tens of militants, of Villa Amalias while it was guarded by riot police, totally humiliated state repression. Our brothers who reoccupied Villa Amalias and occupied the headquarters of the political party DEMAR, the left crutch of the fascist government, sent loud messages out to different directions: to the state that they hope in vain if they believe they can subject social resistances and to all the fighting people, employed, unemployed, youngsters that everything can be confronted where there is willingness to fight for fairness and that the enemy no matter how powerful, is not invincible.

The fight is continued. We, the plebians of society and the militants, are right and we are going to beat those arrogant, unjust and pompous stuffed shirt charlatans who are looting and oppressing our lives. No matter what they do, they belong to the past. We are the future.

AGAINST THE OVERALL ATTACK OF THE STATE AND CAPITAL WITH THE HELP FROM PARASTATE GANGS, WE MUST OPPOSE AND BROAD MASS SOCIAL-CLASS FRONT OF ALL THE RESISTANCES FROM BELOW

NO SURRENDER – NO TRUCE. SOLIDARITY IS OUR WEAPON.
